Chapter Summaries Chapter 1: Rainbow of Hope In February 1974, Shin’ichi visits Okinawa for the first time since the islands were returned to Japan after twenty-seven years under US administrative control. He emphasized that since Okinawa had experienced the horrors of war, they had a vital mission for peace. Chapter 2: Song of Triumph Shin’ichi visits North and South America, meeting the president of Panama for the first time. In Peru, Shin’ichi and Mineko are awarded honorary citizenships in Lima and attend the Peru World Peace Culture Festival. Chapter 3: Shin’ichi gives a lecture at UCLA, his first at a university outside of Japan. He also attends several other events, including the San Diego Convention and Eleventh All-America General Meeting. Chapter 4: Treasure Tower The youth division’s antiwar publishing efforts, with experiences of atomic bomb survivors, gain momentum, eventually reaching eighty volumes in Japanese. Shin’ich attends a meeting of the Soka Gakkai’s visually impaired group.
