Chapter Summaries Chapter 1: Bastion of the Pen The Human Revolution begins serialization in the Seikyo Shimbun on January 1, 1965. In the spring, preparations begin to make it a daily paper. Shin’ichi meets regularly with newspaper staff and encourages them on various topics. Organ newspapers begin in other countries as well. Chapter 2: Winds of Happiness Amid the Watts uprising of August 1965, Shin’ichi travels to Los Angeles to encourage the members and attend the first outdoor culture festival in the US. He and his party then fly to Mexico, a country his mentor, Josei Toda, had dreamed about visiting. Chapter 3: A New Course In Paris, a reorganization of Europe Headquarters is announced on October 19. In West Germany, Shin’ichi reunites with youth who, inspired by Shin’ichi’s article “Youth, Become Leaders of the World,” had moved there from Japan to promote kosen-rufu there. In Milan, Italy, the Min-On Concert association works to realize a visit to Japan of the famed La Scala. Chapter 4: Crowned Champions Shin’ichi devotes himself to encouraging members throughout Japan via commemorative photo sessions. In Hawaii, he attends the opening of their new community. The inaugural meeting of the men’s division takes places on March 5, 1965, and Shin’ichi urges men to become “golden pillars” supporting kosen-rufu.
