The Soka Gakkai’s New Student Alliance, formed that October, marks a start for the organization’s efforts for peace, culture, and education. Chapter 2: Mission Amid a nationwide nurse’s strike, the White Birch Group is formed, comprising young women who work as nurses. The Sixth All-America Convention and parade take place in Los Angeles with the participation of the Fuji Fife and Drum Corps from Japan. Chapter 3: Fierce Winds Shin’ichi develops acute bronchial pneumonia with a high fever and relentless bouts of coughing. Despite doctors’ warning, he proceeds with a planned trip to Kansai. The Soka Gakkai faces attacks from society falsely claiming that it had tried to obstruct publication of misinformed books critical of the organization. Chapter 4: Mighty River At the headquarters leaders meeting on May 3, 1970, Shin’ichi explains that “kosen-rufu is not a destination; it is the journey itself.” In June, the Soka Gakkai forms the Future Group, made up of elementary, junior high, and high school students.
